The parrot, Me-Tu was accompanying owner Irene Kerrigan to a game between Hertfordshire Rangers and Hatfield Town.

Ref Gary Bailey, 45, told the Daily Mirror: "I've never known anything like it. This woman was standing right by the touchline and suddenly unveiled this big green parrot.

"Every time I blew my whistle the bird made exactly the same sound.
"The players all stopped so I had to ask her to move the parrot."

He added: "I've never sent off a parrot before."

Apart from his whistling, Me-Tu also shouted "pretty boy" at the players from his cage on the sidelines.

She said: "He loves his football and I'll take him back down there."

Hatfield Town beat her team 5-2.

Four couples in the same road ended up in custody in Italy after fighting over watching Euro 2008 on TV.

A police spokesman in Lucca said: "We kept getting calls about disturbances in the same road and at first we though they were about one single incident but the addresses were all different.

"When our officers got to the four different houses we found though it was the same argument - the men had refused to let their wives watch films when the football was on."The women had been so angry they attacked their husbands.

We had to take all of them into custody before we could resolve the matters," added the spokesman

A footballer accidentally let slip his hopes for a transfer to a rival club - on his Facebook page.
Crystal Palace winger Ashley-Paul Robinson, 19, posted two messages on the website saying he was having a trial with Fulham.

But rather than restrict the news to his 198 pals, he mistakenly revealed it to 2.7 million people, reports The Sun.

Robinson, who has been at Palace five years, wrote on the website: "Ashley-Paul is goin fulham. Fingers crossed."

A Crystal Palace source said: "It's pretty embarrassing for the club. Perhaps he should be a bit more private about what he puts on the internet."
