8 Year Old Helps Civil Defense Buy Helicopter

An eight-year old Lebanese boy, eager to help Lebanon's Civil Defense Department battle forest fires,sold fresh lemonade to passersby in Ajaltoun, raising the amount of $150.

An Nahar daily said Tuesday that Rayan Chamoun stood at Mar Zakhia square in

Ajaltoun, carrying a placard that read:"They need helicopters and trucks.

Help them protect our forests."He raised the amount of $150after calling for more than two hours on people to buy fresh lemonade from him to donate the money to the Civil Defense Department.

An Nahar said that the boy will make his donation in theform of check to the

Department's Director General Darwish Hobeika.Rayan had made a similar initiative

to help the Lebanese army in its battle against Fatah al Islam militants at the

Palestinian refugee camp of Nahr al-Bared last year.
