Facebook users campaign against Pope About The Controversial Statement Of Condom

Facebook users raised their voice against Pope Benedict's remark that condoms do not prevent HIV.

Last week Pope went to Cameroon. There he said to the journalists,"You can't resolve it with the distribution of condoms," "On the contrary, it increases the problem." It was the most controversial comment from Pope.

Thousands of Facebook users have pledged to send the pontiff millions of condoms to protest this controversial comment. Most Facebook users who criticized about this comment were from European countries.

"It frightens me that a man who has devoted his life to moral guidance ... and is undeniably a learned, intelligent man can be at the same time so narrow-minded, bigoted and irresponsible," posted one of Facebook users.

Pope Benedict XVI has made it clear he intends to uphold the traditional Catholic teaching on artificial contraception. The Vatican has long opposed the use of condoms and other forms of birth control and encourages sexual abstinence to fight the spread of the disease.

The Lancet, a British medical journal, urged the pope Saturday to issue a retraction for the "outrageous and wildly inaccurate" statement to journalists aboard his plane. "When any influential person, be it a religious or political leader, makes a false scientific statement that could be devastating to the health of millions of people, they should retract or correct the public record," The Lancet said in an editorial.

Using Internet

The Internet is a magnanimous thing in the world. There are some etiquette one has to follow while using the phone, like when coughing, cover the microphone, etc. Well, using the Internet also has its own share of etiquettes, which go under the name “netiquette”. Let's cover some of the basics:

E-mail

Forwarded e-mail chains are one of the irritating parts of using E-mails. These E-mails contain a variety of messages. Some of them are religious, some of them hold “the love of your life”-type quizzes, etc, with the general threat of a curse: “forward this message or your life will be screwed and you'll die horribly”. Word of advice, when people say send this to all of your friends, DON'T, because it's very annoying.

Never forward a personal e-mail without consent of the original sender. Use the subject field when sending e-mails; it's there for a reason. Also remember, records of e-mails are kept in the servers, even deleted ones. Don't say things that would get you into trouble.

Chatting/forum etiquette

Chat groups and forums are a lot of fun. But the number one rule of using them is, don't give out personal info or your pictures. See the cartoon? You don't know who is on the other side.

There are a few other rules, like not using CAPITAL LETTERS because that means you are shouting. If someone makes a mistake, correct them, but don't gloat. Avoid flame wars. It's also smart not to respond to threats and leaving threads that are uncomfortable to you.

When you are chatting with someone, it is polite to say be right back [brb] before answering a phone or responding to your parents. It is similar to when you say, “hold on a sec” when talking on the phone. It is also polite to say bye before logging out on someone.

Facebook

Facebook is a kind of social network which connects all your long lost friends, helps you keep easy tabs on people. But there're also some manners and safety involved. Make sure it's only your friends who may view your information. It is better if you get to know the person in real life before you allow him access to copiable pictures that may or may not be used in Photoshop. Don't post unflattering pictures of people without their consent. Don't bug people with friend requests just because they are hot or famous.

These are some of the basic netiquettes. Check out the following sites for more info. Manners reflect your character, both in the virtual and the real world. So try to make a good impression. It'll help you meet good friends.

Divorced Through "Facebook"

A wife has become first woman to be "divorced" through Facebook.

Emma Brady claims she only found out her six-year marriage was over when her husband posted a message on the social networking site.

It simply said: "Neil Brady has ended his marriage to Emma Brady."

Emma, 39, only learned she was dumped when her best friend from Denmark phoned to see if she was OK, reports the Daily Mirror.

One person from Canada wrote: “You are better off out of it.”

Conference manager Emma said: “I joined Facebook because girls at work said it was fun.“The first I knew about the break-up was when I got a call from a pal.”

Mum-of-one Emma, of Blackburn, said: "We were like any other couple. We had our ups and downs but as far as I knew things were fine between us.

"When I got the phone call I was shell-shocked. My first instinct was to phone him but my friends at work insisted I should speak to him face to face. He acted like everything was fine.

"This whole thing has been terrible. It's been humiliating having everything happen so publicly."

Yet in December, IT consultant Neil assaulted her at their home in Accrington, Lancs. He was fined £580 by JPs in Blackburn.

Neil, now living in Baxenden, Lancs, said: “Her behaviour was totally unreasonable. I’d been telling her for ages I wanted a divorce.”

What Do You Know About Facebook?

I bet almost everyone who is reading this article has facebooked once already, is going to today or has done so very recently. Facebook's monstrous growth is truly overwhelming and it seems like every Mintu, montu and motu have a facebook account; anyone who has a legitimate email address. Many post almost every detail of their life on facebook; their feelings, what they did over the weekend and the image they want to purport to the world.

However, facebook users should be aware how popular the site really is. An article in the September 16 edition of the Wall Street Journal, “College Applicant, Beware: Your Facebook Page is showing“noted how not just your friends and family were looking at your profile but possibly prospective employers and colleges as well. This new survey included feedback from 320 selective schools, of which 10 percent use social-networking sites to evaluate applicants and a fair amount who admitted to being negatively influenced by what they find. While 10% may not seem much, for someone whose future depends on being admitted into a good college, it's a lot. Admission committees may do some background checking to see what sort of applicant they have on their hands and many employers have been found to do so too. The Director of the Career Development Center (CDC) Lance Choy confirmed in an article on the Stanford Daily that employers routinely conduct Web searches to find background information on job candidates. Companies have furthered this practice by using Facebook. “Employers might be able to confirm background information,” he said. “Some students write about their interests, and employers might want to check on whether this supports their job application. Some employers might try and learn something about the student's personality and whether it would be appropriate for the job. However, there is information on Facebook that is not relevant to the job but may be used inappropriately by employers to assess a candidate.” Obviously if your email address is drunkgirlxoxo@yahoo.com or have a lot of wild pictures doing inappropriate things, you may not be considered so right for the job/college after all.

Then there are those incidents of actually being caught red-handed on FACEBOOK. In November 2008, a restaurateur in Australia was left with a large unpaid bill as five of his young customers snuck out without paying. However, he and another employee searched for them on facebook, got one of the culprit's contact information from his profile, called up his employer and explained the situation. Within hours, the guy returned and paid the money back including large tip, but was later fired from his job.

And one of my favorite 'caught on facebook' episodes is this: a bank intern, Kevin Colvin emailed his boss that he couldn't come to work for a few days because he had to fly back home for what his boss assumed was a family emergency. The next day, his co-worker found pictures of Colvin dressed up as a fairy for some sort of party on his Facebook page and showed it to the boss. The boss then charmingly replied to Colvin's email, attached Colvin-dressed-as-a-fairy photo and send it to everyone at the office to see including Colvin himself.

Ergo, what you have on your facebook or MySpace pages and who is able to see them is extremely important. After all these are wildly popular networking sites with a view to connecting to people. You don't want all those good grades, hours of community service and top notch essays to do down the drain just because some admission committee takes a dislike to the videos you've uploaded. And at least if you're going to call out of work to enjoy a party, don't post pictures of it online the next day.

Footballer's Facebook Foul Up

A footballer accidentally let slip his hopes for a transfer to a rival club - on his Facebook page.
Crystal Palace winger Ashley-Paul Robinson, 19, posted two messages on the website saying he was having a trial with Fulham.

But rather than restrict the news to his 198 pals, he mistakenly revealed it to 2.7 million people, reports The Sun.

Robinson, who has been at Palace five years, wrote on the website: "Ashley-Paul is goin fulham. Fingers crossed."

A Crystal Palace source said: "It's pretty embarrassing for the club. Perhaps he should be a bit more private about what he puts on the internet."
